Lesson 2: Introducing Yourself in Greek

Introducing yourself is one of the first steps in any conversation. In Greek, introductions are simple and often involve sharing your name, origin, and a polite greeting. This lesson covers key phrases and cultural tips for introducing yourself in both formal and informal settings.

Informal Introductions:

  • Γεια σου! Με λένε… (Yiá sou! Me léne… – Hello! My name is…)
  • Είμαι από… (Íme apó… – I am from…)
  • Χάρηκα! (Chárika! – Nice to meet you!)

Formal Introductions:

  • Γεια σας! Με λένε… (Yiá sas! Me léne… – Hello! My name is…)
  • Ονομάζομαι… (Onomázome… – My name is… [more formal])
  • Είμαι από την… (Íme apó tin… – I am from… [feminine country])
  • Είμαι από τον… (Íme apó ton… – I am from… [masculine country])

  • Neutral: το (to) – Example: το Μεξικό (to Mexikó – Mexico)

5. Practice Exercises

Exercise 1: Complete the Dialogue

Fill in the blanks:

  • A: Γεια σας! Με λένε __________. Εσάς;
  • B: __________! Με λένε Δημήτρης.
  • A: Από πού __________;
  • B: Είμαι από __________.

Exercise 2: Translate to Greek

  • Hi! My name is John. I’m from Canada.

Exercise 3: Role Play
